San Angelo ISD Classroom Foundations Cultivates Growth and Success for Educators

San Angelo ISD’s newest educators have officially completed Classroom Foundations, a four-part professional learning program designed to support teachers at the start of their careers. Spanning from September through January, the program is grounded in research, strengthened by practice, and centered on student success.

Throughout Classroom Foundations, educators explored effective instructional practices that support strong, engaging classrooms. The program focused on building classroom management systems and implementing high-impact strategies proven to elevate student learning. Teachers were encouraged to reflect on their practice, apply new learning, and continue growing in ways that help every classroom remain a place where students can thrive.

Classroom Foundations reflects San Angelo ISD’s commitment to investing in educators and recognizing the critical role they play in student success. “Teachers are our true difference makers,” said Deputy Superintendent Dr. Farrah Gomez. “They shape futures, lift up student potential, and leave a legacy far beyond the walls of a classroom. It is our privilege to serve alongside them, and we remain fully committed to supporting their growth, their practice, and their impact every step of the way.”

Support through Classroom Foundations extends beyond the initial learning sessions, reinforcing the district’s focus on retaining high-quality educators by addressing common challenges experienced early in a teaching career. Classroom management, in particular, is a skill that develops over time, and the program provides practical strategies and resources to help new teachers create positive, productive learning environments.

Teacher Retention Specialist Mrs. Mary Beth Flippin plays a key role in this ongoing support by following up with educators as they implement new strategies in their classrooms. Through coaching, feedback, and individualized support, she helps ensure teachers feel confident applying what they learned during the program.

“The strongest teachers are not formed in isolation,” said Mrs. Flippin. “They are supported through intentional learning, thoughtful listening, and meaningful collaboration within a culture that embraces growth through challenge. When educators feel supported, their confidence grows. This is how we directly impact teacher and student success.”

Teaching can be emotionally demanding, particularly for those new to the profession. Classroom Foundations promotes collaboration, mentorship, and connection, helping educators navigate challenges while building confidence and camaraderie. By learning alongside peers and engaging with experienced educators, new teachers strengthen their practice and are better equipped to meet the diverse needs of their students — positively impacting classroom experiences and student learning outcomes.

Approximately 55 new educators completed Classroom Foundations during the week of January 12. San Angelo ISD celebrates the growth and success of these team members and looks forward to continued years of service to produce future-ready graduates. Congratulations to all of these staff members. In San Angelo ISD, our people do make a difference!
